What does a DMI Intensive look like?

A DMI intensive is a block period of time of 1 to 3 weeks of DMI therapy for 2 different times a day. Sometimes we will have 90 minute sessions which are (2) 45 min sessions put together without a break. This method allows the brain to better understand the patterning and repetition to make gross motor movements while building the strength and endurance of the child. The sessions will last 45 minutes long. The goal of DMI intensives is to challenge the neurological and sensory systems to enhance gross motor movements. The therapist will challenge the child's head/neck control, core stability, righting reflexes, balance and coordination, movement against gravity, and postural strength challenges. Throughout the intensive, the child will build new neural pathways, strength, and endurance for improved motor outcomes.

We do have a weight limit of 35 lbs with full to moderate assistance. If your child is above 35 lbs and full to moderate assistance, please continue to fill out form and select dates. We will set up a consult call to see if your child is appropriate for DMI.

We do have a spider cage (Universal Exercise Unit) to help with children over 35 lbs at full to moderate assistance. We will be taking time to learn and navigate the universal exercise unit before changing our weight limit.

  • We have a 2 person adult policy to attend sessions. Please be aware that our space is small and fits a small amount of people. No siblings are allowed to attend in order to ensure the health of our immune compromised kids at the clinic. No outside therapists are allowed to attend, unless asked prior session.

  • We recommend to bring any motivating items /toys that your child is interested in. As well as non-orthotic shoes, orthotics, possible walker, and compression vests if you use this in therapy. More details about what to bring will be discussed in zoom call with therapists before intensive date.

  • The Intensive Models (IMOT) recommends 3 weeks of an intensive to help build neuroplasticity through repetition and introducing novel tasks. However, we know picking an intensive is based off many factors such as cost, time away from family, the child, etc. That is why we offer 1 to 3 week intensives to meet the needs of the families and children.
